Feral pigeons have become a common sight in our towns and cities, particularly in public places, where many people enjoy feeding them.
They can become a problem, however, in shopping areas, on railway platforms, on the top of buildings, in car parks, and also in recreational areas where the public are likely to leave remnants of food around.
Once feral pigeons build into a sizeable flock, they can be both a public nuisance and a significant health hazard. Their droppings cause a slippery mess on pavements, endangering pedestrians, and the faeces also contain many dangerous bacteria.
These birds can also cause serious issues which incur major expense. Whether the problem is damage to the outside fabric of the property with their acidic droppings, or the inside, where they have gained access and are nesting, pigeons can make considerable mess in a very short time, and with the added major health issues caused by the bacteria and other pathogens they carry, it is best not to have these birds around in any great numbers.
To deter feral Pigeons there are a variety of methods available to us. These include conventional, discreet netting of roofs, ledges and complete buildings, spikes to deter the birds from landing, invisible cables, and even a new optical gel which to the birds appears to be on fire! There is also always the option of culling by shooting if none of the above methods are appropriate.
To deal with the problem of pigeons, we would first survey the site and take stock of where the birds are roosting and nesting up. Feral pigeons can be a determined species, so it is imperative that we use the most appropriate technique for the circumstances in order to deter them from returning. In conjunction with installing the chosen deterrent, we would clean up the mess caused by the birds, treating all affected areas with a bactericidal solution, and in the case of indoor areas such as loft spaces, complete a biocidal chemical treatment to ensure the area is in a clean and sterile condition.
Whilst baiting will resolve the immediate issue, it is prudent to ensure that the problem does not return at some point in the future.
Finding all the entry points used by the rodents and sealing them to prevent further ingress is therefore extremely important.
When we carry out a treatment we will always point out the problem areas and offer a price to carry out the proofing works should you wish us to do so.
This can be carried out following on from the rodent treatment or at another time to suit your convenience.
This is a service available to all, but has been introduced for the benefit of our many lettings agencies.

At Eradica Pest Control we are now offering a deep cleansing service for commercial kitchens. Using industry strength chemicals and steam methods, we are able to clean all kitchen areas, from cookers and fridges to extraction ducting and ancillaries.
This service is normally priced on a per job basis, however some clients request it as an add-on to our annual contracts so that their kitchens are deep cleansed regularly to comply with Environmental Health requirements.
Works can be carried out at the convenience of our customers, such as when the kitchens are not in use, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
Whilst wildlife and humans can exist harmoniously together, it is inevitable that at some point they will come into conflict with each other. When this happens, the public can be unsure what to do to resolve the situation.
At Eradica Pest Control we are dedicated to providing expert help and advice to our customers to deal with issues on their properties arising from wild animals.
Moles, rabbits, deer, squirrels and foxes can be responsible for causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage to land and property as a result of their foraging and nesting behaviours.
Whether it be installation of fencing to stop Deer or trapping to remove Rabbits, we have a wildlife expert who will be happy to discuss the matter with you.
Tunnelling and digging by Moles can ruin lawns and cause land subsidence, and Squirrels in lofts can cause havoc by chewing through cables, thereby posing a risk of fire.
Having a Fox visit your garden can be one of the most exciting experiences in wildlife interaction, but they are also known to raid rubbish and dig holes under sheds, making their presence known with their faecal deposits on the lawn, so some people prefer not to be visited by these animals.
Foxes have a very delicate social structure and are very territorial. Eradication of this animal will only result in another fox moving in to fill the vacuum. However, we can carry out a survey and offer advice as to how to control their impact on human habitation and everyday life. We can also implement practical deterrent measures where foxes are posing a real problem in your environment, we can carry out proofing to deter them, and we can also direct you to specialist fox rescue services.
